SIGNING DAY
Updated: Feb 10
On January 3, 2023, I walked into the office of the Democratic Party and completed the Qualifying Statement of Intent to run for State Representative for District 56.
It has been said, if you want to hear God laugh, tell HIM your plans.
Running for office was not on my building the brand board. Moman Realty was and still is.
But, someone said to me: "Sharon, you need to run for office."
First, I said no.
Then I said I'll think about it.
Then I said yes when I became more aware of life saving services being removed from local and rural hospitals. There is no Neo Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Merit Health in South Jackson anymore. Mothers are separated from their babies after birth. The baby is taken to Merit Health in Flowood. That is UNACCEPTABLE.
After learning that, I said I'm all in.
How did this happen.
Politicians are putting politics before people and lining their bank accounts with PAC monies. I'm not talking about thousands of dollars. I'm talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars.
With funds like that, they will not stand up for average citizen of the Great State of Mississippi. They are bought and paid for.
Mississippi is not for sale.
And Mississippi is not properly represented.
Women are the majority in this state holding at 52% of the population.
In our District, 56, the female population is 54%.
The capital building in downtown Jackson has 174 legislatures.
Less than 15% are women.
Is that EQUAL REPRESENTATION? NO.
I'm sure the gentlemen of the great State of Mississippi TRY their best, but a woman's VOICE is needed.
A woman's voice is needed for District 56.
We've never had one.
The time is now.
You have a choice.
You can send the same man with a different name and the same perspective regarding women's health and livelihood, or you can send me.
I will fight for our voices and help grow the great City of Clinton and the entire area that encompasses District 56.
